Important changes to Skills Checkpoint contract

The Skills Checkpoint program aims to ensure our mature age workers remain in the workforce and, along with their many years of experience, have the relevant skills to ensure they do. BUSY At Work, a not for profit organisation that delivers a range of employment, training and skills programs, is the national contractor for the Australian Government's Skills Checkpoint Program for Older Workers.

The new contract from October 1, 2022 has some important changes that we wanted your Registered Training Organisation to be aware of, so as to ensure you correctly inform your mature age students who may be looking into the co-fund contribution (of up to $2,200) towards training.

The most important change in the new contract stipulates that:

Training Courses must be directly related to an occupation in national shortage or an occupation not in current national shortage but with strong future demand included on the National Skills Commission’s Skills Priority List, published on the National Skills Commission’s website and:

a). at Certificate II level or above; or

b. lower than Certificate II level with a clearly demonstrated pathway to the Participant completing future training at Certificate II level or above that is directly related to an occupation in national shortage or an occupation not in current national shortage but with strong future demand on the National Skills Commission’s Skills Priority List, published on the National Skills Commission’s website.
